Bring the bike in: tune-ups and repairs for Harley-Davidson products

The shop's own line on motorcycles is short and specific: it works on Harley-Davidson products, for tune-ups and repairs. That is what this page is about. Car Doctor+ is an independent auto repair shop, not a dealership, and it does not dress itself up as anything else.

A tune-up on a Harley is the small, regular work that keeps it starting on the first press and running cleanly: oil and filter, spark plugs, the air filter, a look over the drive belt and cables, brake pads, and the condition of the tires. A repair is whatever the tune-up turns up, or whatever made you stop riding in the first place: a rough idle, a charging problem, a clunk from the primary, a brake lever that pulls right back to the grip.

You drop the bike at 4219 Germanna Hwy in Locust Grove, the same address and the same front desk as every car and truck job, and the same estimate promise applies: you hear what it needs the same business day.

Twenty-one years at the York plant, before this shop had a sign

Brian Riley, who owns the shop, spent 21 years at Harley-Davidson's plant in York, Pennsylvania. Before that he earned an associate degree in automotive technology and turned wrenches at a car dealership. That is two decades inside the company that builds these machines, which is a different education from anything picked up under a bike on weekends.

It is worth being plain about what that history is and is not. It is not a factory certification, and the shop does not claim one. It is the working experience of the person who owns the building and answers for the work, and it is the reason a Harley is a welcome sight here and not a puzzle.

Look at the customer lounge and you will see one parked against the stone wall, next to the TV. Complimentary WiFi and beverages are there while you wait.

Spring tune-up, a winter in storage, and the warranty

Most riders in Virginia park the bike for the coldest weeks, and the best time to book a tune-up is before riding season, not on the first warm Saturday when every other rider has the same idea. A bike that sat all winter wants its fuel checked or drained, its battery tested or charged, its tire pressures set and its sidewalls looked at for age cracking.

Batteries and tires are what most often decide whether a stored bike starts and rides properly in April. A tire can look fine and still be too old to trust, and a battery that read full in October can be flat by spring. Both are quick to check and slow to forgive if you ignore them.

Work at Car Doctor+ carries a one-year parts and labor warranty, and most services finish in two to three business days. Ask what that timing means for your bike when you hand over the keys, or call (540) 972-7090 and tell them what it is doing.
